Q: Why am I receiving a special E911 notice from Windjammer Communications?
A: So you will have important and full information about the service. We will always inform our customers as completely as possible about any changes to your E911 service.
Q: Is this on the level? How do I know that it's not a scam to get my private information?
A: This is absolutely on the level. Any information you share with Windjammer will only be shared with the proper Emergency Services authorities - police, fire and paramedics.
Q: What is E911 and why do I need it?
A: E911 automatically transmits your address and telephone number to the emergency services dispatchers when you dial 911. It improves the response time to your emergency, saving precious minutes when they really count.
Q: What's the difference between E911 and 911?
A: Regular 911 doesn't automatically provide your telephone number and address to the emergency services dispatchers, so you don't have to waste precious moments relaying the information when you make a 911 call. And, if you are disconnected for any reason, your location and phone are still available and help can be sent immediately.
Q: Do I have to sign up for E911.
A: No, all Windjammer Digital Phone customrs are automatically included in the program. However, you need to confirm your information by calling 888-495-2881 to receive this benefit.
Q: Since Windjammer is a VoIP service, won't that make my personal information available on the Internet?
A: No. Although Windjammer Digital Phone is an IP-based service, your personal information is protected very carefully and will NOT be made public on the Internet.
Q: I've heard there are technical problems with VoIP services, like Digital Phone, and Enhanced 911.
A: Any problems there were are long behind us. Windjammer's E911 service is safe, efficient and makes getting help in an emergency much easier and faster.
Q: How does the E911 service provided by Windjammer differ from the E911 service that my local telephone company has?
A: In practice, there is no difference: both get emergency services personnel on their way to you quickly. However, Windjammer's E911 uses a voice-enabled cable modem that is electrically-powered and, in the event your power goes out or Windjammer has a network failure, you will not be able to access Digital Phone service or E911. Second, your Terms of Service agreement with Windjammer prohibits you from moving your voice-enabled cable modem to a different location. If the modem is moved to a different address without assistance from a Windjammer technician, E911 services will not operate properly because the emergency dispatch operators won't be able to accurately fix your location in an emergency.
