Windjammer Cable

CableCARD™ is a small device that allows you to access cable services without a set-top box, but not all services are available through it.

A CableCARD is about the size of a thick credit card. It fits into a special slot that's built into digital television sets and some peripheral devices. By using it, you can plug your cable connection right into your TV without going through your set-top box. However, it has some limitations.

Two types of CableCARD equipment

• Uniderictional Digital Cable Products (UDCP) are one-way only devices that allow reception of programming such as both analog and digital cable, some HDTV and premium cable channels. What these devices don't make available is access to any interactive services like an online programming guide, On-demand or pay-per-view programming, digital sports packages or an increasing number of interactive enhanced TV services such as games. Almost all equipment on the market that has a CableCARD option is UDCP.
• Open Cable Products are capable of receiving interactive services in the same way that a Windjammer set-top box can. These are not widely available yet.

You can tell which type of equipment you have - UDCP or Open Cable - by referring to your user's manual. If you choose to lease a CableCARD from Windjammer, the cost is approximately $1.75 per month.
